the program

Need To Read Book Club consists of two core components: fun meetings with monthly themes and the year-end "Reading For Others" Service Project. In order to make sure club meetings are successful, we provide facilitators with extensive resources through our Members-Only website, including Reader's Theatre, Guest Speaker, Field Trip, Crafts, Games, Media, and Snack ideas. Also, each club chapter receives a Need To Read BIG GAMETM!

Need To Read Book Club has a four-year programming cycle that allows the program (curriculum) to be integrated throughout the middle school years. Community Connections, is offered for 2010-2011. It has a social studies focus throughout the curriculum with a special emphasis on World War II. (For details about this program, please click here.) Positive Progress has a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) emphasis and will be offered in 2011-2012. Stand-Up and Make a Difference focuses on character and will be offered in 2012-2013. Around the World and in Your Own Backyard targets global perspective and will be offered in 2013-2014. Each curriculum is multi-disciplinary and incorporates books of multiple genres and reading levels.

what people are saying

"I have been in the NTRBC all this year. I initially joined so I'd get better as a reader and become more intelligent, but I've found out there is so much more to it! I love reading and sharing with others about the books. The teachers really seem to enjoy it, too, and it is fun getting to know them outside of the classroom!" -NTRBC book club member
